Perhaps one of the most striking qualities of Dongbei women is their resilience. They have faced and overcome tremendous adversity- from economic hardships to natural disasters- with grace and dignity. One example of this is the 1976 Tangshan earthquake that flattened most of the city, killing over 240,000 people. Many people from nearby regions offered aid and support, among them the women of Dongbei who played a big role in the aftermath of the tragedy.2.
